Expressions of Persuading, Encouraging, and Hoping

 A. Persuading

Persuading is an expression to persuade someone. It means to make someone decide to do something by giving them reasons why they should do it, asking them many times to do it, or to make someone believe something or feel sure about something.

(Persuading adalah sebuah ekspresi untuk membujuk seseorang. Artinya untuk membuat seseorang memutuskan untuk melakukan sesuatu dengan memberikan alasan mengapa itu harus dilakukan, meminta untuk melakukannya secara terus menerus, atau membuat seseorang percaya atau merasa yakin tentang sesuatu.)

Here are some expressions to persuade someone to do something:

– Can’t I persuade you to…?

Tidak bisa kah saya membujuk kamu untuk …?

– Let’s join… You won’t regret it.

Mari bergabung … kamu tidak akan menyesal.

– I’m begging you. Will you…?

Aku memohon padamu. Maukah kamu …?

– I’m begging you. Will you…?

Aku memohon padamu. Maukah kamu …?

– Just this once!

Sekali ini saja!

– How I can persuade you to…?

Bagaimana saya bisa membujuk kamu untuk …?

Apakah kamu benar-benar yakin kamu tidak bisa / tidak bisa …?

B. Encouraging

Encouraging is an expression to give someone support, motivation, giving them hope, and confidence to do something or to make something more likely to exist, happen, or develop, so he/she can achieve the goals.

 

How to Encourage Someone?

Follow the quick below guide:

2. Show people their strength
3. Show appreciation
4. Believe in them
5. Be a positive role model

Here are some expression to encourage someone :

– Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll do better the next time.Jangan khawatir. Saya yakin kamu akan melakukan lebih baik waktu berikutnya.
– You have my support.Anda memiliki dukungan saya.
– You’re doing very well.Kamu melakukannya dengan sangat baik.
– You like it? Go for it!Kamu menyukainya? Pergi untuk itu!
– It wouldn’t hurt.Tidak ada salahnya.
– Keep at it!Tetaplah begitu!
– Stick to it!Tetap pada itu!
– Give it a shot.Cobalah itu
– Come on. This is not the end of the world.Ayolah. Ini bukan akhir dari dunia.
– We feel you should go ahead.Kami merasa Anda harus maju.
– I’m sure you’ll win !Saya yakin Anda akan menang!

C. Hoping

Hope is A feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.
(Hope adalah sebuah perasaan pengharapan dan keinginan terhadap hal tertentu yang diinginkan untuk terjadi)

Expressing Hope adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan pengharapan. Biasanya dengan menggunakan kata “I hope” dan “I expect”. Dalam Bahasa Indonesia kata tersebut mempunyai arti “Semoga”, dan  “Saya harap”.

Kapan kita menggunakan ungkapan pengharapan? Biasanya ungkapan pengharapan disampaikan kepada orang lain untuk mendapat sesuatu yang lebih baik. Misalnya, orang yang sedang sakit diharapkan cepat sembuh, orang yang sedang belajar tekun diharapkan dapat nilai bagus dalam ujian.

Maria : Were you invited to Diana’s birthday party this evening ? ( apakah kamu diundang ke pesta ulang tahun Maria malam ini?)
Daniel : Ah! Thank you to remind me. I would like to buy a gift on my way home then. By the way what do you plan to give her? ( Ah! Terimakasih sudah mengingatkanku. Saya mau membeli kado dalam perjalanan pulang. Ngomong-ngomong, kamu berencana memberi apa ke dia?)
Maria : This morning I bought orchids at the florist and had arranged them and send to her home( Pagi ini saya telah membeli setangkai anggrek dan saya telah menyusunnya dan mengirimkan ke rumahnya)
Daniel : Great! She is font of orchids and her hobby is painting flowers. (Bagus! Dia penggemar anggrek and hobby nya adalah melukis bunga)
Maria : I hope she like the flowers and I also hope she will always remember me when she works in Bekasi. ( Saya harap dia suka bunganya dan saya juga berharap dia mengingat saya saat bekerja di Bekasi.

The expressions used in the dialogue are :

– I hope she likes (will like) the flowers.
– I also hope that she will remember (will remember me) when she works at Bekasi.
– Hopefully, there is no victim in that train accident.
– Let’s hope that she gets well soon.

To express hope we can use some other expression :

– I hope…
– hopefully,…
– Let’s hope (that)…
– I’m hoping (that)…
– I’m hopeful of…
– I wish……
– I also expect …..

Mari kita simak dialog singkat menggunakan ungkapan harapan berikut ini:

Gina: Hi, Jean. How are you doing?
Jean: Bad.
Gina: What’s wrong?
Jean: My father got sick. He has to stay in the hospital for a few days to get medical care. Gina: What happened to him?
Jean: He got cancer.
Gina: I’m sorry to hear that. But you still go to school?
Jean: Yea, my mom told me that I have to go to school. She is in the hospital to accompany my dad.
Gina: I hope your dad will get better soon.
Jean: Yea, I hope so.
